I was looking for information regarding Gold Claims and how they were determined. Since there was no Survey Monumentation or control set up - how did one "claim" a piece of land? How was it establishedand recorded? Since some of the claims got down to 15 sq/ft per man, how did you know where your 15' was? I have read that men used to put physical stakes in the ground and sometimes a name board in the middle of their claim.... and that they would leave a shovel or pick to mark that the claim was still active.... is that true? How many claims could a man have? thanks.
